Botafogo, owner of the Copa Libertadores: all the champions and who leads the history

Botafogo made history at the Monumental stadium by defeating Atlético Mineiro and become champion of the Libertadores Cup 2024. The Rio de Janeiro team won its first continental title and joined the elite of South American football, becoming the 27th team to lift the most important trophy in America.

With the long-awaited achievement, “Fogao” completes the list of the twelve great clubs in Brazil that have conquered the Libertadores, further consolidating Brazilian hegemony in the tournament in recent years: it is the sixth consecutive title that the neighboring giant has won.

The Brazilian team, which at the international level had only won the Conmebol Cup in 1993, is now writing a new golden page in its history. His coronation comes a year after Fluminense broke its own spell and lifted the Libertadores for the first time.

Despite the recent domination of Brazil, the historical ranking is still dominated by Argentine teams. Independiente tops the list with seven titles, followed by Boca with six, although both clubs have not won the competition since 1984 and 2007, respectively.

Peñarol, from Uruguay, is in third place with six trophies, while River Plate and Estudiantes de La Plata complete the top five with four titles each.
