Lawyer Ulyukaev detained in Moscow in fraud case

The lawyer of the former Minister of Economic Development of Russia Alexei Ulyukaev, Daredzhan Kveidze, was detained in Moscow on a case of major fraud. The investigation asks to arrest her. This was reported on January 25 by the press service of the Presnensky Court of Moscow.

“The Preobrazhensky District Court of Moscow received a petition from the investigation to select a measure of restraint in the form of detention against Kveidze,” the court said in a statement.

The lawyer was charged with a crime under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud committed on an especially large scale”).

Ulyukaev was sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of 130 million rubles in December 2017. The court found that he demanded $2 million from the head of Rosneft, Igor Sechin, for issuing a positive opinion on the purchase of Bashneft. The ex-minister himself pleaded not guilty and called himself a victim of a provocation.

On January 15, 2021, FSB officers caught a judge of the Lytkarinsky City Court, Sergei Kotov, red-handed while receiving a bribe. According to a police source, the judge promised his assistance in a criminal case related to drug trafficking for a monetary reward.
