In the city of Obninsk, Kaluga region, on January 24, an elevator caught fire and collapsed into the basement.

The incident occurred in a multi-storey building No. 25/1 on Kurchatov Street, REN TV clarifies.

“It was found that the elevator car was on fire. The residents of the house were evacuated, in total 120 people were evacuated. The fire has been extinguished. There were no casualties. The causes of the fire will be established by the Fire Testing Laboratory, ”said the special department of the FPS No. 84 of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

According to eyewitnesses, there was a bang on the 15th floor, then the elevator flew down, the vibration was felt throughout the building. After the cabin fell, a strong roar was heard, furniture shook in the apartments.

On October 22, 2021, an elevator crashed in Moscow, in which there were 11 people, including five minors. The elevator flew several floors and stopped, no one was hurt.

During the inspection, it was found that due to exceeding the carrying capacity of the elevator, a regular operation of the security system occurred, and the elevator stopped. There was no cable break.
