With exhibitors from 24 countries in more than 30 conferences and panels, the first Artificial Intelligence Week in Argentina at the Cultural Center of Science, located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo. The event was attended by special guests and authorities, including the Secretary of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dario Genua; and the Chief of Staff of the President’s Council of Advisors, Demian Reidel.
During the course of the event, there were meetings and thematic sessions with the aim of inspiring new ideas in the development of technology and its role in the quality of life of the Argentine community. There were innovative cases in commerce, health, telecommunications and public services.
In addition, it was attended by the Secretary of Culture of the Nation, Leonardo Cifelli; the undersecretaries Ignacio LupYo, Liliana Barela and Federico Brunetti; the national director of Federal Integration and International Cooperation, Gaston Pulero; and there was participation from leading organizations such as Microsoft, Globant, IBM, Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, Meta, Mercado Libre, Telecom, among others.
”The use of AI changes your life”
Genuafor his part, declared: ”We began to build the foundation for make Argentina a hub for the development of Artificial Intelligence. “We work on implementation for business development and innovation and for the improvement of public services and their governance.”
Likewise, he highlighted that the Government is organizing ”an inter-ministerial table, where we meet with all the ministers to explain, not only the use cases and the tools they have at their disposal, but also to understand what is the idea and the positioning that we are looking for with Argentina”.
“The use of Artificial Intelligence changes your life. It gives you a jump in productivity that you can not only use to amplify being more productive in your work life. You can do what you like, what you want, things you never imagined you could,” he concluded, explaining the importance he gives to the tool.
In addition, Cifelli assured: “We are very proud to be part of such a timely and fundamental initiative, because Issues that occupy a central place in debates about the contemporary world and culture are being discussed here.“We are really very happy to contribute and be part of this exchange of ideas and views.”
As part of the celebration of the conference, they carried out the Pitch Day of the contest Transformative AI – Artificial Intelligence Innovation Award. Its objective is to recognize and promote the development of innovative technological solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can have a positive impact on society, the economy and industry.
The winner was the web platform Retinatewhich uses AI to improve access to ophthalmological control to prevent blindness due to diabetic retinopathy. With their victory, the creators received a prize of US$5,000, in addition to computing hours on the Clementina supercomputer for Decisive Advances with Supercomputing Projects (PADS), up to 4,000,000 CPU hours and/or 250,000 GPU hours.
In addition, the site allows trained technicians to capture retinographs of diabetic patients in a decentralized manner, offering on the spot a pre-diagnosis using AI whether or not ophthalmologists are present.
