The software industry remains among the sectors that lead the generation of jobs in Argentina: in the first half of this year 2,600 new jobs were created, reaching more than 156,800 formal jobs throughout the country, according to a survey by the Argentine Chamber of the Software Industry (CESSI).
By the end of this year, companies in the sector estimated that they will add around 6,000 and 8,000 jobs.
The same study also detected a downward trend in the turnover rate and a favorable evolution of salaries against inflation, with salaries that exceed the average of a stable worker by 76%.
“We are at a crucial moment for the local software industry. Formal work in our sector continues to grow uninterruptedly which reflects a huge positive impact for the national economy,” said Pablo Fiuza, president of CESSI and CEO of QServices.
“We have a unique opportunity to establish ourselves as one of the main job-generating sectors, valuing the concept of federalism, thanks in part to the possibility of remote work that our sector offers, managing to diversify the talent base in different regions of the country. ”he added.
The sector also continues to set a trend in salary terms. In July 2024, the median salary was $1,755,000: 12.8% more compared to the report surveyed during the second quarter of this year and 234% more compared to the same period of the previous year.
“This increase reflects the constant value that companies give to professionals in the sector, with salaries that They exceed the average of a stable worker by 76%according to the RIPTE,” explained Gustavo Guaragna, director of the Permanent Observatory of the Software and Computer Services Industry (OPSSI) of the Chamber and CEO of the firm Snoop Consulting.
Another relevant aspect in the labor market is the tendency to the decline in rotation which has remained around 6% in the first two quarters of the year, reaching 12.8% for the first semester. Projecting that same level of turnover for the remainder of the year, it would be returning to usual levels for the sector, or even a little lower (25.7%).
As for the software exportsthe report specifies that in the indicated semester there were US$641 million in terms of billing, which represents the highest quarterly value from the fourth quarter of 2022.
By the end of 2024, companies in the sector maintain encouraging expectations: More than half (53%) said they hope to continue increasing their staff, and 57% anticipate an increase in their sales for all of 2024.
Even among exporting companies, 37% foresee an increase in foreign salesthus consolidating the international positioning of Argentine software.
This report is based on surveys carried out by the OPSSI between August and September 2024 among 234 companies that employ more than 39,000 people and highlights the key role of the sector as a driver of technological and economic development in Argentina.
