Rosprirodnadzor is carrying out supervisory activities in connection with the spread of the chemical on the soil after an accident with a tank truck near Saransk. This was reported on January 26 on the website of the department.
“On January 22, 2022, the interregional department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia received information about a car accident and a tanker truck with a chemical agent rolled over into a ditch. Inspectors of the department quickly went to the scene. During the inspection of the territory on the M-5 highway at the entrance to Saransk, it was recorded that a tank trailer overturned, in which orthoxylene with a volume of 25 cubic meters was transported. m,” the statement said.
As a result of the accident, the chemical spilled onto the ground. According to preliminary estimates of Rosprirodnadzor, its volume may be several tens of liters. At the accident site, atmospheric air and soil samples were taken with the participation of specialists from the laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsLATI for the Volga Federal District”.
The necessary research is currently being carried out. Based on its results, a decision will be made within the framework of environmental legislation.
At the end of December, a truck transporting carbon dioxide got into an accident in the Orenburg region. A Scania car with a tanker truck flew into a ditch in the Novosergievsky district. The press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the truck was transporting carbon dioxide, which belongs to the IV class of danger.
