In the Orenburg region, two people were poisoned to death by alcohol

In the Perevolotsky district of the Orenburg region, two people died as a result of surrogate alcohol consumption. On Wednesday, January 26, a source told Izvestia.

Currently, all the circumstances of the incident are being established.

Last year, mass alcohol poisoning was already observed in the Orenburg region. On October 7, it became known that six people were poisoned to death. The next day, three suspects of illegal sale were detained. On the morning of October 8, Governor Denis Pasler wrote on his Telegram channel that the death toll had risen to 17. Another 16 were in the hospital in serious or critical condition.

On the same day, an operational headquarters was launched in the Orenburg region on the situation with the mass poisoning of the population with surrogate alcohol. The head of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, said that 1,218 0.5-liter bottles were seized, of which 560 were plastic. According to doctors, methanol was found in the blood of the dead, while the concentration of the substance was several times higher than the lethal dose for humans.

In total, according to Izvestia, at least 34 people died as a result of poisoning. In November 2021, the investigation charged 18 defendants in a criminal case of poisoning with a surrogate. In early December, the police seized over 1.8 thousand liters of surrogate alcohol, five criminal cases were initiated.
