One of the most expensive artists in the world, Damien Hirst, has made new covers for 12 Eminem albums. The reissues are timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Interscope label, which released the original discs. The rapper himself announced this in his Twitter.
The covers are made in Hirst’s signature style, but retain a connection with the original artwork. It will be possible to buy a new vinyl, released in a limited edition, for only a few days – from January 27 to January 31, the cost will be $2,500.
According to Sergey Uvarov, Candidate of Art Criticism, columnist for Izvestia, the world of contemporary art is increasingly merging with the world of collectible audio media.
“The vinyl renaissance has once again made it relevant to involve the biggest artists on celebrity covers, at least for these special editions. Still, it is one thing when a picture is enclosed in a small CD box, and another when it is comparable in size to a full-fledged museum work. As for Hirst, this is not the first such experience for him. Most recently, he made a cover for Drake’s album, depicting 12 “pregnant” emoji, and this work has become a real meme, ”said Uvarov.
In November 2021, the most popular song of all time according to Billboard magazine was named Blinding Lights by Canadian artist The Weeknd. The track dislodged American singer Chubby Checker’s The Twist from number one on the Hot 100 chart and set a record for 90 consecutive weeks on the chart.
