Anniversaries in Argentina today, December 16
- 1965: The UN recognizes, through Resolution 2065, that there is a dispute over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. Great Britain discusses the issue with the Argentine government headed by Arturo Illia. 94 countries vote in favor of the resolution and there are 14 abstentions, including Great Britain.
- 1982: In the last times of the civil-military dictatorship that began in 1976 in our country, on December 16, the multi-party march to Plaza de Mayo. There was a strong repression that left 80 injured and one fatal. Dalmiro Flores, 28, was hit by a police bullet. The crime still continues unpunished.
- 1989: Death of Oscar Alfredo Gálvez at the age of 76. El Aguilucho was one of the most popular runners in Argentina. He won the Road Tourism championship five times and ran the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in our country, finishing in fifth place. In his honor, the Buenos Aires Autodrome is named after him.
- 1993: The Santiagueñazo. Popular outbreak in Santiago del Estero due to the serious economic crisis in the province. They took the Government House and the Legislature, Governor Fernando Lobo resigned and left hundreds injured and four dead.
