According to the military department, the head of the Ministry of Defense inspected the first Russian specialized plant for the production of large-sized drones and checked its production. Representatives of the Kronstadt company presented him with the first flight model of the Orion with a satellite communications antenna.
The satellite communication unit allows you to significantly increase the range of the device, since it can operate outside the zone of direct radio visibility of the ground control station.
The Ministry of Defense added that as part of the promising programs of the Kronstadt company, the head of the military department was informed about the new Sirius unmanned complex contracted by the ministry, the Helios-RLD radar patrol UAV, and the Thunder high-speed attack drone.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and the governor of the Moscow region Andrey Vorobyov also got acquainted with the new production.
At the beginning of 2021, Russia had the only strike UAV officially put into service – Orion-E. The first set of several “Pacers” (formerly known as “Orion”) entered the troops in the same year.
Military analyst Vladislav Shurygin, in an interview with Izvestia, said that not only heavy combat drones would appear in the Russian troops, but also a huge number of small devices for working on the front line in the near rear, capable of pinpoint elimination of military equipment and even individual soldiers.
