Barbieri presented its Sustainability Report

Barbieri, a dry construction company in Argentina, launched its fourth global Sustainability Report corresponding to the period 2023-2024, reflecting year after year its commitment to sustainable, transparent management and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This report, prepared under the 2021 Universal Standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and aligned with the materiality map of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), covers all Barbieri and consulsteel operations in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. Reaffirming its purpose of “Building Future, Building Family”, the document details the progress made in the “Inhabit 2030” impact strategy and its environmental, social and economic objectives.

Barbieri’s impact in figures

When talking about the Environmental ImpactDuring this year, thanks to the implementation of the Habitar 2030 Plan, the company generated 664,600 kWh of renewable energy, reaching 17% of its total energy consumption with clean sources. In addition, it recycled more than 89% of its waste. In this sense, it recycled 36.43% of common waste thanks to the implementation of the Ecological Island and achieved a 52.8% reduction in PVC scrap compared to its baseline.

In turn, during this time they perfected their measurement system and data structure for calculating the carbon footprint, improving the quality of the data each year. These results allow us to identify opportunities for improvement in the environmental management system, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Regarding the axis Communityin alliance with other organizations that work on the housing deficit, Barbieri trained more than 2,500 people through consulsteel with the aim that those who live in popular neighborhoods can acquire knowledge about Steel Frame and thus promote job creation.

Also, the first Steel Frame Panelization and Assembly Course was held exclusively for women within the Barbieri plant where more than 30 students invited by the Vamos a Zoomar Foundation participated, thus promoting diversity and inclusion in the industry.

Likewise, another of the main milestones was the construction of the fifth community hall in Steel Frame in the Evita neighborhood of La Plata, together with the TECHO social organization. To build it, the panels of the prototype built in Barbieri’s Panelization and Assembly courses were used.

On the other hand, regarding its Human CapitalBarbieri is committed to investing in attracting and developing talents. Today 397 people make up the team and have great opportunities to grow both professionally and humanly. As part of the benefits, this year the Barbieri Wellness Space (BIBA) was inaugurated where you can enjoy a dining room on the ground floor, gym, soccer field and doctor’s office and relaxation spaces such as the terrace.

Finally, the fourth axis of the report contemplates what is related to the Value Proposition based on offering products and services with a responsible approach that seek to improve the habitat. Construction with Steel Frame has demonstrated lower waste generation, water use and carbon footprint, and proposes greater efficiency. In order to promote the adoption of this construction method, the company developed the Barbieri Paneling System, and there are now 6 clients that have this construction method.

Another important event was the company’s participation in the International Construction and Housing Exhibition BATEV 2023 where it presented this innovative system.
