From Mexico and around the world, this new accessory is very useful for those who carry out intense physical activity.
This new invention created by Gustavo Cadena Schlamgraduated from Tec de Monterrey, could be seen in more than 50 Elite athletes in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It is known as the Omius Band and uses nanotechnology to regulate body temperature up to five times faster than sweat, offering a crucial advantage in highly physically demanding competitions.

It was developed at the Innovation Gym at Tec de Monterrey. Its operation is optimize sweat evaporation and keep athletes cool in extreme conditions. Although it had been used in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, it had a greater impact in Paris 2024 where medalists from different disciplines incorporated it into their strategies to achieve better performance.

Omius Band

How the Omius Band works
According to the official product information, The band amplifies the natural effect of sweat evaporation. Normally, when water or sweat evaporates on the surface of the skin, it absorbs heat and cools the body. With this piece, this process becomes much more efficient due to its components made of graphite.
The pieces have an evaporation surface area 5 times larger than human skin, which accelerates the transformation from liquid to gaseous state. In the process, the drops absorb heat from the interior of the pieces, which are in contact with the skin, generating a significant and constant cooling effect. It does not require batteries or mechanical objects, it only amplifies what the body already designed to improve.
How was the arrival of the invention at the Olympic Games?
A month before the start of the games, the manager of a group of athletes personally contacted Gustavo Cadena to ask him how exactly the product worked, taking into account that the temperatures in Paris were going to be high and would create a challenge for the athletes. That’s how he sent her 15 for free as a trial.
By not having any agreement or contract, and not paying the athletes to use it, they gave them the product. Then, during the live broadcast, Cadena was surprised to see two-time Olympic champion, marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge with the band on.
Furthermore, the product was included in the list of the 200 best inventions of the year from TIME magazine. This recognition, awarded annually for more than two decades, highlights innovations from various areas that have managed to make a difference due to their impact, effectiveness and originality.
