Russian Orthodox Church opposed stores for adults

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) considers it necessary to ban adult stores, calling them “legalized debauchery.” This was announced on Saturday, January 29, by the head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

“I would think that such stores should be banned altogether. The position of the church on all these issues is very clear and unambiguous – we are against sexual promiscuity, against debauchery in any of its forms, and such so-called shops for adults are nothing but legalized debauchery, ”said the head of the DECR on the air of the Church and the world” on the TV channel “Russia 24”.

Metropolitan Hilarion noted that the church can only give advice on this matter to the authorities and warn the faithful. They do not have the right to ban sex shops with an age limit of 18+.

“Here we can tell our children that visiting such stores is unacceptable, but we, unfortunately, cannot force the state authorities to close such stores altogether or regulate the signs and advertising that are on them,” Metropolitan Hilarion concluded.

In December last year, the Russian Orthodox Church announced the need to ban hunting as an entertainment, as this activity is a “relic of the past.” Metropolitan Hilarion noted that hunting is permissible only when it is necessary to regulate the population of certain animals. However, “there are specialists for this – huntsmen.”
