On December 24, hours after the escape of another group of detainees from a local detention center became known, the capital’s mayor decided to behead the top members of the Buenos Aires police. The chief and deputy chief of the force, Pablo Kisch and Jorge Azzolinawere removed and replaced by the General Commissioners Diego Casaló and Carla Mangiameli respectively.

This Wednesday, Macri, together with the Buenos Aires Minister of Security, Waldo Wolff, formally presented to the new authorities of the Buenos Aires force and the members of the new dome.

The first staff of the City Police will be made up of five women for the first time. In addition to Mangiameli, they will be Maria Cristina Avila (Superintendence of Scientific Police), Raquel Cesanelli (Superintendence of Operations), Sonia Vitale (Superintendence of Family and Gender Violence) and Maria Mercedes Rebaynera (Autonomous Directorate of Coordination and Liaison with the ISSP).

Prisoner escape: five police officers charged
The change in the Buenos Aires Police came after a new one was carried out in December breakout of 17 prisoners of the Mayor’s Office No. 9. In the midst of the crisis that the Buenos Aires mayors are going through, the government of Jorge Macri resumed work on the New Federal Penitentiary Center VII of Marcos Paz. Once completed, they will allow the transfer of prisoners housed in Devoto and local prisons. “The restart of the work is a concrete response so that the people of Buenos Aires can live safer,” said the mayor.
Macri was accompanied by the Security Ministers, Waldo Wolff of Infrastructure, Pablo Bereciartua, and Justice, Gabino Tapia, and the Secretary of Security, Ezequiel Daglio. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Once the work is completed and the transfer of the prisoners from the Devoto prison to Marcos Paz is authorized, the Buenos Aires Legislature will define the use that will be given to the land included in Pedro Lozano, Desaguadero, Nogoyá and Bermúdez streets, in the Commune 11.
