The deadline for voting Oscar nominations has been extended by two days due to fires in Southern California.
Voting for the Academy’s nearly 10,000 members opened on January 8 and was originally scheduled to close on January 12. The deadline is now January 14. The nominations announcement, originally scheduled for January 17, has been moved to January 19. Conan O’Brien will host the 2025 Oscars ceremony, which will take place on March 2.
The Academy sent an email to its members Wednesday afternoon detailing CEO Bill Kramer’s date changes. “We want to offer our deepest condolences to those who have been affected by the devastating fires in Southern California,” the email read in part. “Many of our industry members and colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”
Other events canceled due to fires in Los Angeles
The extension of the voting deadline comes amid a series of premieres and events in the Los Angeles area that have been canceled or postponed amid the horrific fires.
