The Caribbean country is going through a crisis of armed gang violence and poverty. It has not had a functioning President or Parliament for ten months. That is why the transition cabinet insisted on placing security as one of the priorities for 2025.

“Due to their precarious situation, many children are attracted or forced to join these criminal groups, depriving them of their potential as builders of tomorrow,” lamented the CPT in a statement.
For this reason, the CPT suggests it is necessary to strengthen the capacities of the institutions in charge of public security. At least 5,601 people lost their lives, 2,212 injured and 1,494 kidnapped, according to data from the United Nations Office for Human Rights.
The electoral plan for 2025
The transition process had been promised by the president of the CPT of Haiti, Leslie Voltairelast December. He then promised to pacify the country and organize general elections between November and December 2025.
«The mission of the Executive is to bring peace to the country. And for that it is necessary (…) the agreement of the entire population to participate (in it). We are not free. We can be free in spirit, but not in movement. “Everyone must participate in this effort,” Voltaire said in a speech given on December 14, 2024 during the inauguration of two other CEP members.
Voltaire had announced an ambitious schedule. The draft Constitution should be ready in mid-January. The constitutional referendum would be in March, while the general elections would be next November and, if a second round was necessary, it would be held in January 2026. So that on February 7, 20260 the new president of the country would take office. .
