Municipal taxes: Luis Caputo accused the opposition mayors of “being against the people”

The minister seeks to eliminate “illegal” municipal taxes to contribute to a further reduction in inflation. From the municipalities they assure that they receive a tiny part of the total resources.

The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, harshly criticized the “K” mayors for defending the collection of municipal taxes. According to the Government’s view, the removal of said tax would remove pressure on prices and give people greater peace of mind, in contrast to politicians’ intention to constantly create new taxes to finance public spending.

The official aligned himself with a video released by the president of Tres de Febrero, Diego Valenzuelain which he assured that “more rates mean more prices and more inflation.” “We mayors must choose which side we want to be on: on the side of the people, who need predictability to make decisions, to invest and to work, or on the side of politics. that always seeks more spending and always finds justification to create a new rate or increase taxes,” said the PRO member.

Caputo agreed with this dilemma raised by Valenzuela and questioned the position of the mayors “K” who have already chosen “to be on the side of bad politics, against the peopleincreasing rates and trying to hinder the successful process of lowering inflation.

Open conflict between the national government and the mayors

It is worth remembering that the minister recently asked the governors to take measures so that their municipalities repeal those municipal taxes that do not adjust to the cost of providing public services, which he considered “illegal and arbitrary.”

The response of the political leaders of the municipalities was immediate, highlighting that they barely have 5% of the total public resources, in a context in which the benefits they must provide are increasing due to the social crisis.

“Perhaps the fact that Minister Caputo has developed his professional career in the world of finance, far from the real economy, and the circumstance of his belonging to a government that, with the excuse of stabilizing the macroeconomy, destroys the microeconomy, enhance your impossibility of understanding what the economic dynamics of a commune are like and how each and every one of the needs of society are financed“, they said.
