In the Khabarovsk Territory, a false medical center deceived more than a thousand people

The Investigation Department (SU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia for the Khabarovsk Territory has completed a preliminary investigation of a criminal case against 15 employees of the sales department of a fake medical center who deceived more than 1,000 Russians. This was announced on January 30 by the official representative of the department, Irina Volk, to the MIA Media portal.

In the pseudo-medical center in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, patients were recommended to undergo a complete diagnosis of the body. At the same time, the clinic staff did not have a medical education, and the scammers used fitness equipment to conduct the “examination,” Volk said.

The defendants in the case were charged with a crime under Art. 30 (preparation for a crime) and 159 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Russia, the representative of the ministry specified.

“People were informed that they had severe and chronic diseases, and through intimidation they were convinced of the need for urgent paid treatment at the medical center using unique methods using advanced technologies and expensive equipment. Patients, as a rule, were elderly people who, after being subjected to moral and psychological pressure, were forced to pay from 99 to 353 thousand rubles for pseudo-treatment. At the same time, they were deliberately misled about the fact that partial compensation for the funds spent would be made at the expense of budgetary funds within the framework of a special federal program. As a result, many pensioners took money on credit,” the report says.

158 volumes of the criminal case were submitted to the court. As the investigators established, the amount of damage exceeded 188 million 800 thousand rubles.

Earlier, on January 26, it became known about the death of people after the examination of the stomach in a St. Petersburg clinic. Then two patients, aged 60 and 42, died. The third patient died on 27 January. Three more were in intensive care, Gazeta.Ru noted.

On January 28, the head physician of the clinic, Yevgeny Popov, was detained. On the same day, the Oktyabrsky District Court arrested him for two months. According to investigators, Popov approved an application for the purchase of a drug that is not included in the state register of medicines and cannot be used for medical purposes, as it poses a danger to human life and health. The drug was purchased and used in the provision of medical services.

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for St. Petersburg opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Causing death by negligence to two persons”).
