Rosario: nine homicides so far this year, four linked to drug trafficking

In just 18 days, the numbers tripled when compared to January 2023. At the provincial level, the murders were 15.

So far in 2025, there have been 15 homicides in the province of Santa Fe, 9 of them in Rosarioa city marked by violence and drug trafficking. In fact, At least four of the criminal events have links to drug gangs.

In detail, these crimes were those of Gerardo Mesawhich took place in a settlement of Rubén Darío in 2000; the one of Agustín de la Encinaimprisoned and murdered in the Piñero prison; and also the double crime of Antonella Echavarria29 years old, and Marcela Gorosito55 years old in the República de la Sexta neighborhood.

In the case of Mesa, the responsibility would lie with the band of Fran Riquelme in his desire to lead the sale of drugs in the sector. In the case of de la Encina, his death is under investigation, the cause of which includes arrest of two Penitentiary Service agents. Finally, one of the victims of the double crime, Gorosito, was the mother of a convict related to René Ungaro’s organization.

Under this framework, the numbers triple compared to January 2023, even with two weeks remaining. Also, last year’s violent records – which had recently decreased – cause fear of a new wave of homicides in the city of Santa Fe.

Jonatan “Jonita” Riquelmelinked to one of the recent murders, was arrested by the City Police at the end of the year in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Caballito. The 30-year-old man was a fugitive for crimes linked to drug trafficking: he had an arrest warrant for a case of double homicide and illicit association linked to the Alvarado clan. The criminal is the brother of Francisco “Fran” Ezequiel Riquelme, one of the most important drug traffickers in Rosariowho is targeted for threats against the governor of Santa Fe Maximiliano Pullaro.

Riquelme’s arrest took place at 300 Colpayo Street, after the agents observed him leaving a building with his partner, Jael G. Both were immediately apprehended by the Santa Fe Police and the Anti-Drug Division of the Santa Fe Police. the City, which collaborated in the operation.

“Jona” is considered the executing arm of his brother “Fran” Riquelmeleader of a gang associated with drug lord Esteban Lindor Alvarado. Francisco is currently incarcerated in the Marcos Paz Penitentiary Complex II. He was arrested in April 2020 and spent time in the Rosario Piñero prison and Ezeiza before being transferred to Marcos Paz due to episodes that threatened the internal security of the Ezeiza prison.
