Sources of Izvestia in the Ministry of Defense said that in the maneuvers “Allied Resolve – 2022” the air defense forces of Russia and Belarus are waiting for a serious test. Thus, the deployed group of air defense systems will work out interaction with the unified air defense system of Russia, for example, receiving information from it about the air situation.
According to the source, already during the practical exercises, which will be held from February 10 to 20, Russian and Belarusian anti-aircraft gunners will be engaged in the fight against cruise and hypersonic missiles, low-profile aircraft and drones, and repulse massive raids of a mock enemy. In the mobile reserve – anti-aircraft complexes “Pantsir-S”.
Prior to this, representatives of the Ministry of Defense stated that, as part of the test of the reaction forces of the Union State, two divisions of long-range S-400 air defense systems from the Khabarovsk Territory would be sent to Belarus to strengthen the Unified Air Defense System. On January 29, a division of Pantsir-S missile and gun systems arrived at one of the training grounds from the Far East.
On January 27, a squadron of twelve Su-35S multi-role fighters from the Far Eastern Dzemgi airfield was relocated to the exercise area. Along with them, ground equipment arrived for maintenance.
In addition to anti-aircraft missile systems, fighter aircraft are also included in the unified air defense system, Aitech Bizhev, ex-Deputy Air Force Commander for the CIS Joint Air Defense System, told Izvestia.
“We have been moving towards this for a long time, even along the line of the unified air defense system of the CIS,” the general noted. – Now it has taken place, the decrees of the presidents of Russia and Belarus have been signed. A legal framework has been created, instructions and guidance documents have been written. And now the system has been worked out in practice, as it will be in real life. The exercises will be analyzed and the results will be summed up. A unified system means that individual forces and means will be transferred either to Belarus or to the territory of Russia. Both the Belarusian representative and the Russian one can lead these forces. We work with the Belarusians according to the same standards, we have the same weapons systems, military educational institutions, training programs. We understand each other”.
The Russian-Belarusian agreement on the creation of the Unified Air Defense System was signed by the heads of state in 2009. The procedures for ratification and harmonization of its characteristics took several more years. The system was finally put into operation at the beginning of 2016.
