Sales of vodka in Russia per person increased by 2%

Vodka consumption per capita in Russia increased by 2% in 2021, to 5 liters per person. This is evidenced by the data of the Center for the Study of Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets (CIFRRA), which Izvestia got acquainted with.

The organization used information on legal sales from the state accounting system EGAIS and the population in the Russian Federation at the end of 2020. During the same period, sales of vodka per person also increased by 2%, TSIFRRA explained.

As Rosalkogolregulirovanie (RAR) told Izvestia, the volume of sales of all alcoholic products in the Russian Federation increased by 0.7% and amounted to 982.3 million decalitres. The department added that the calculation of the consumption of alcoholic beverages is the authority of the Ministry of Health. Izvestia sent a request to the ministry and Rospotrebnadzor.

Over the past four years, the vodka market has been stable: its sales either do not change or grow slightly, Vadim Drobiz, head of TSIFRRA, told Izvestia. He added that this is facilitated by crisis situations, including a pandemic, when the population pays attention to this particular drink.

The fight against illegal alcohol is getting tougher, so the consumption indicator based on sales data is becoming more realistic every year, President of the Union of Producers of Alcoholic Products Igor Kosarev told Izvestiya. He recalled that at the end of 2021, vodka production increased by almost 2%.
