The Russian Su-30SM2 fighter jet outperforms Western combat aircraft in terms of range and maneuverability. This was reported on January 31 by the American edition of Military Watch Magazine.
“In terms of endurance and maneuverability, it surpasses any Western fighter, and the range of hitting targets with air-to-air missiles of 400 km for the CM / CM2 modification exceeds the most powerful Western aircraft by half or even more,” the authors of the article emphasized.
The publication recalled that the Su-30SM2 is in service with the air group of the Baltic Fleet, covering Kaliningrad. Fighters were produced at a plant in Irkutsk, later they were sent to the Kaliningrad region.
The new fighters will replace the Su-24M strike fighters in the country’s fleet and the Su-27 aircraft in the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS).
The Su-30SM2, unlike the previous Su-30SM, is equipped with exclusively Russian-made equipment, the journalists found out.
The new generation of the aircraft had an improved radar control system, a set of electronic countermeasures and an optical-electronic sighting and navigation system.
As noted by Izvestia, the Su-30SM2 is the most numerous type of modern fighter in the Russian naval aviation and the Aerospace Forces.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin told the publication that work on the deep modernization of this aircraft and import substitution began in 2015.
“Super-Dry” is equipped with an AL-41F-1S engine. Its thrust exceeds the power of the Su-30SM power plant by 16%. The overhaul interval of the aircraft is estimated at 4 thousand hours.
The predecessor of the “Super-Dry” Su-30SM is in service with Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
