Police arrest bank robbery suspects in Yekaterinburg

Police in Yekaterinburg detained suspects in the robbery of a branch of the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development (UBRD), which took place on January 29, 2022. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, Valery Gorelykh, on Wednesday, February 2.

According to the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the robbery was committed by a man and his girlfriend from Tajikistan, who live in Pervouralsk. They confessed to the crime, according to the website aif.ru.

Part of the stolen sum — about 800,000 rubles — was confiscated from the suspects, as well as the weapons with which they threatened bank employees.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the robbers stole money in the amount of about 1.5 million rubles. The investigation opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Art. 162 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The persons involved were chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.

On the afternoon of January 29 in Yekaterinburg, two armed men robbed the UBRD office on Kosmonavtov Avenue.

There were no customers in the branch at the time of the incident. The staff acted strictly according to the instructions, no one was hurt. The representative of the bank noted that the savings of the bank’s customers were not affected. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers threatened the bank employee with a gun, robbed him and fled the scene.
