On February 2, a court in Nizhny Novgorod found Narek Baghdasaryan guilty of manslaughter of his cohabitant and sentenced him to five years in a penal colony.
Such a lenient sentence for murder was due to the fact that the court could not prove intent in Baghdasaryan’s actions, he was convicted under Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Murder by negligence”).
At the same time, according to the investigation, he took the life of his 30-year-old cohabitant Galina Sokolova, after which he dismembered her body and threw the remains into garbage cans.
The crime was committed over a year ago. The woman disappeared without a trace, she left a one-year-old son. A few days later, a suspect was detained, who turned out to be Baghdasaryan. He told investigators that he accidentally killed his partner, then, to cover up the crime, dismembered her body and threw it piece by piece into dumpsters throughout the city.
Surveillance footage is one of the main pieces of evidence in the case. The footage shows how the man calmly throws bags into the trash, in which, according to preliminary data, there was the body of the deceased.
But already during the trial, new details appeared: there were no remains in the packages in these frames. The woman’s body has not yet been found. According to the relatives of the deceased, the criminal is deliberately hiding something in order to mitigate his punishment.
Galina’s relatives failed to challenge the charges and send the case for additional investigation at court hearings. After the verdict, they plan to appeal.
Earlier, on January 31, the Shcherbinsky Court of Moscow detained Alexander Popov, who is suspected of murdering his wife Ksenia Sapozhkova, the owner of the Miss Kuzbass 2010 title. On January 11, a 36-year-old man reported to the police that his wife was missing. He said that the woman flew to Dubai and no longer got in touch, and he took his daughter with Sapozhkova to Novokuznetsk to his wife’s relatives.
At the same time, according to the investigation, Sapozhkova has not crossed the border since the day of her disappearance. Posts on Instagram on her behalf were published by her husband, in addition, he answered messages from friends and relatives from her page.
Later, the man confessed that he killed his wife, dismembered the body, tied it with stones and threw it into the Desna River, the 112 Telegram channel reported. The divers who worked on the spot did not find the body of the murdered woman. Later, Popov began to deny guilt and refused to testify against himself.
