Some more than 20 years ago I was walking through the Arlington cemetery in Washington. City that “erroneously” does not visit Argentines who go to New York and are a couple of hours by train.
Upon arrival you begin to see an extensive meadow of white crosses surrounded by small objects that their relatives leave such as floral garlands, photos, flags, notes and memories. Thousands of heroes of an endless war are rest between several figures from the United States.
The other side
At that moment I told myself, one day I should go to Vietnam and see the other side of this war. I contacted specialists in Southeast Asia and met a guide that in turn is a journalist who led me to especially traveling places linked to the armed conflict. The first thing I remember told me was “my grandfather participated in the war, now there is another generation, my children do not talk about that issue …”

Vietnam is famous for its captivating history, landscapes and its culture. Its beautiful landscapes and the kindness of its inhabitants. Today Vietnam has everything prepared to receive tourists from all over the world and obviously North American. Upon arriving in Hanoi he feels a strange mixture of serenity and bustle. Wooded avenues and a French colonial architecture. The first surprise is the beauty of Halong’s bay whose meaning is “the dragon what descends from the sea.” The tour is made on a cruise where an endless islands emerge with different shapes surrounded by abundant vegetation. The bay was declared a World Heritage by UNESCO, and included in the seven natural wonders of the world.
Tunnels
Cambodia and Ho Chi Minh are the best known places due to the conflict fought there with the Americans. In this last city it is very important to visit the tunnels of CU Chi, a complex with more than 200 kilometers where it was the basis of the Viet Cong’s guerrillas. There the guides highlight details to visitors of how thousands of soldiers lived underground in improvised hospitals, kitchens and entered vehicles and weapons through those tunnels through the sea.
The motorcycles

One of the most prominent surprises that we take when visiting this city of Ho Chi Minh are the motorcycles that circulate through its streets. It is estimated that some 9 million inhabitants live today and there are 8 million motorcycles against about 700 thousand cars.
The food

In Vietnam is very tasty, it has a clear French influence from its seafood to the classic spring of herbs, species and sauces. From street stalls to the restaurants of the highest level, eating is economical. To take some examples, fast chicken meal combos are between 3 and 5 dollars, and those of burgers 4 and 5 dollars. A USD 6 pizza, while a tasting menu in a high -level restaurant about USD 35.
SHOPPING
They are very low price. For example, silk is highly appreciated for its soft texture. Laca trays and vases. Bamboo and embroidery products, ceramics and jewels of pearls, condiments, tea, coffee and crafts, and carved in jade.

RELIGION
Buddhism is the most widespread, confucianism, Taoism, Catholicism and Cao Dai follow it. The country occupies the 12th position in the list of Asian countries with better quality of life.
TRAVEL

From Buenos Aires you can make the trip with a scale via Europe, Dubai or Qatar. But it is advisable to make a stop of 2 or 3 days in an intermediate city and continue more rested. For Argentines it is a destination to which several hours of flight must be dedicated, therefore, it must also be complemented with another city to visit Bangkok, Shanghai, Tokyo or Beijing.
