The tasks of Natalia Poklonskaya as deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo will be determined by the leadership of the agency. On Thursday, February 3, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“It depends on the head of the department (Evgeny Primakov. – Ed.): What tasks he assigns, such will he perform. Whether this is connected with Ukraine will depend on the distribution of tasks within the department,” Peskov added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Poklonskaya deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo on February 2. The fact that Poklonskaya can take a position in the agency, said a source on January 21. Poklonskaya herself then noted that it was still premature to comment on the issue of her future employment.
On October 13, 2021, Putin signed a decree appointing Poklonskaya to the post of Russian Ambassador to Cape Verde. Commenting on the appointment, she told Izvestia that she had previously wanted to do diplomatic work and had studied at the Diplomatic Academy and an internship at the Foreign Ministry.
However, on January 19, 2022, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Poklonskaya’s departure to Cape Verde would not take place due to personal circumstances. On the same day, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, explained that candidates for the post of Russian ambassador to Cape Verde instead of Poklonskaya had not yet been agreed.
Previously, Poklonskaya was a deputy of the State Duma of the 7th convocation, deputy chairman of the committee of the lower house of parliament on international affairs. In addition, Poklonskaya worked as the prosecutor of the Republic of Crimea.
Rossotrudnichestvo is part of the structure of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agency promotes the Russian language abroad, promotes the development of Russia’s international relations, organizes events in the cultural, scientific and humanitarian fields, follows from the text of the decree of the President of Russia dated September 6, 2008.
