Sources called the composition of the American troops deployed to Europe

Sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia that the United States had prepared units of the 82nd Airborne Division for the transfer to Europe.

They will be transported from the territory of the United States directly to Poland. The Red Berets of the 82nd Division will reinforce the personnel of another American airborne unit, the 173rd Brigade, which is stationed in Italy. In the near future, the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment of the US Army should arrive in Romania, now it is based in Germany.

The Pentagon plans to deploy in Europe not only infantry and paratroopers, but also heavy weapons. Among the expected are long-range HIMARS multiple rocket launchers of the 18th field artillery brigade and anti-aircraft units of the 18th airborne corps with short-range SHORAD and Avenger complexes.

Most of them will be located in Poland, on the border with which preparations are underway for large-scale exercises “Allied Resolve – 2022”.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that approximately 1,000 US troops from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, based in the German city of Wilsek, will be deployed to Romania in the near future. Another 1,700 soldiers and officers from the 82nd elite airborne division will be transported to Poland from Fort Bragg in North Carolina. 300 other soldiers from the 18th Airborne Corps will be transferred from the US to Germany.

The Pentagon spokesman recalled that American troops would not fight in Ukraine. Earlier this was also stated by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. He said that President Joe Biden “has made it clear that he does not intend to send combat troops to Ukraine for military operations.” According to him, these forces are designed to deter aggression and strengthen our defensive capabilities in the front-line allied states.

“The most important thing is that they thereby seriously worsen the international security atmosphere,” former Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ordzhonikidze told Izvestia. – It is interesting that they are going to send troops not through NATO, but under their own command. It would seem that this is not so important. But by doing so, the Americans are sending a signal to their allies that they are ready to confront Russia along the entire border – from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea. This we can see as a menacing maneuver. In addition, by announcing the increased combat readiness of the troops, they indirectly confirm their statements that Russia is about to invade Ukraine. At the same time, it is already clear that they are not going to fight for Ukraine itself. They want to help her with the supply of weapons. But there is one more nuance. This grouping is another pressure factor in the negotiations. The United States thinks that they are strengthening their negotiating position with Russia in this way.”
