The Ministry of Agriculture will work out measures to support producers of bread and milk. This was announced on Thursday, February 3, by the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev at an interdepartmental meeting.
He noted that the Russian government is taking the necessary measures to contain the cost of basic products.
“First of all, these measures are aimed at maintaining a high level of food self-sufficiency, protecting the domestic market and, of course, supporting our producers,” the press service of the ministry quotes him as saying.
According to the minister, the issue of the availability of bakery products is under the control of the regional authorities and under the attention of the Ministry of Agriculture. Due to the effect of export duties and quotas on grain last year, the cost of bread from producers grew more slowly than inflation, Patrushev said.
It is noted that the Ministry of Agriculture is additionally exploring the possibility of direct support for bakery enterprises and plans to allocate 2.5 billion rubles in the form of subsidies for bread production.
“The dairy industry also requires special attention, where prices have been stable for two years against the backdrop of a significant increase in production costs. In these difficult conditions, we are considering the opportunity to support our livestock breeders and, based on the experience of last year, additionally allocate at least 10 billion rubles to them for the purchase of feed,” Patrushev explained.
Also, at the interdepartmental level, solutions are being worked out aimed at stabilizing the cost of other socially significant food products, such as sugar.
On January 31, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that the ministry is taking measures that will generally ensure a stable price situation in the market for raw materials and finished dairy products. It was noted that a sharp increase in prices in this segment in 2022 is not expected.
On January 24, Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko, following a meeting on the situation in the dairy industry, announced that she had instructed the relevant departments to work out additional measures to support the dairy business and provide for compensation for the costs of enterprises for the purchase of feed in 2022, following the example of last year.
Those present at the meeting acknowledged that the economic impact of the pandemic has affected the dairy industry. Manufacturers complain about the rising cost of feed, veterinary drugs and electricity.
On January 12, the FAS announced that retail chains X5 Group and Magnit had agreed to limit markups on the cheapest basic products. It was noted that we are talking about separate positions in each of the categories of socially significant food products. Retailers have proposed limiting the maximum levels of retail margins to 10%.
