A criminal case has been initiated into the death of a worker during an avalanche in the Uglegorsk district of Sakhalin. This was announced on Saturday, February 5, by the press service of the SU SK in the region.
“A criminal case has been initiated on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of safety rules in the course of construction or other work”),” the report says.
The acting head of the region for the city of Uglegorsk of the investigative department, the investigative-operational group, as well as forensic investigators of the regional investigative department left for the scene.
On February 5, in the Uglegorsk region, an avalanche descended during the dismantling of a pipe on the Poltavka River in the territory of the Solntsevsky coal mine. In total, four people took part in the dismantling process. Due to the avalanche, two of them were under the snow. The rest got out on their own.
Rescuers managed to find and get both workers out of the snow. Later, one man died, the second was hospitalized.
