The fleet of Moscow metro cars will become the youngest in Europe by 2024. This was announced on Monday, February 7, by the deputy mayor of the capital for transport Maxim Liksutov.
It is noted that the average age of the trains will be reduced to 10 years. In addition, about 660 new metro cars will be launched in 2022 and 2023.
“According to this indicator, the Moscow Metro will have the youngest train fleet in Europe. This will set us apart from all major European and American subways,” Liksutov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Earlier, on February 6, the Moscow Transport app won the prestigious transport award of the International Public Transport Union (UITP) UITP Awards-2022 in the Multimodal Integration nomination.
Liksutov noted that the development of metropolitan digital services continues.
On February 1, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin approved a plan for the development of the capital’s transport infrastructure for 2022. The main tasks, according to him, are to restore the demand for public transport and create new attractive services for passengers, as well as ensuring sanitary safety in transport.
