Ex-official who escaped from Russia 10 years ago was detained in Armenia

The former head of the Tutaevsky district of the Yaroslavl region, Yan Andreev, who was put on the international wanted list on charges of receiving a large bribe, was detained in the capital of Armenia.

“Andreev was detained in Yerevan. So far, a decision on extradition has not been made, ”said a TASS source in law enforcement agencies.

He added that the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia deals with the extradition of the detainee. There is no word yet on when this decision will be made.

In 2009, a case was opened against Andreev for taking a bribe in the amount of about 500 thousand rubles. Investigators believe that for this money the official provided the entrepreneur with a land plot near the village of Antifievo in the Tutaevsky district. In 2008, Andreev spent the funds received on vacation. He also illegally received bonuses for working with information that constituted state secrets.

In December 2011, he left Russia, after which he was put on the federal wanted list.

Earlier, on January 28, the former mayor of Slavgorod, Altai Territory, Sergei Gorbunov, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison for taking a bribe. Gorbunov was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Receiving a bribe on an especially large scale by an official”). The convict will serve his sentence in a strict regime colony.
