Netflix announces its fourth project in Russia, the crime thriller ZATO.
Previously, the service has already announced three Russian projects: the multi-episode drama Anna K, the psychological drama with Alexander Petrov, and the life-affirming story Nothing Special.
The events of the new ZATO series develop in the post-Soviet period around the journalist Kristina and the policeman Dashkin, who are investigating the case of a child missing in the closed city of Lobachevsky-4.
“How can a child disappear in a closed city? The riddle intrigued us, and we tried to solve it first just for ourselves, out of love for the genre. And then they remembered the 1990s and how much they influenced us all and still influence us to this day, ”said Mikhail Shprits, the main author of the script.
According to him, the creators of the series tried to tell a story about people who cannot adapt to the rapid changes in society and “are trying with all their might not to lose themselves in a situation where no one else believes in anything.”
On February 2, it became known that the South Korean series “We’re All Dead” topped the world’s top streaming service Netflix. The series tells the story of a group of students trapped in their school due to a zombie virus outbreak. They are forced to unite in order to survive. The show is based on the Now At Our School webcomic.
In October, it was reported that The Squid Game became the most watched series in Netflix history. The South Korean series topped the Netflix top list in 90 countries and was included in the list of the 18 most requested shows in the US.
