Business integrity: an opportunity for development and entering the OECD

Business integrity: an opportunity for development and entering the OECD

Argentina’s entry into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has been defined as a priority by the National Government. This decision opens a unique opportunity to strengthen transparency, competitiveness and confidence in the Argentine market.

In this context, the recent recognition granted by Alliance for Integrity in the Corporate Integrity Forum organized by the OECD to the Argentine Global Pact for its work of more than ten years in the matter charges a strategic relevance: it demonstrates that the country has key actors that work in the construction of standards aligned with the best international practices.

During the Global Integrity and Anti-Corruption Forum of the OECD, held in Paris, Alliance For Integrity distinguished Argentina’s global pact, the Argentine-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Ahk Argentina) and Siemens for their leadership in the implementation of integrity programs for SMEs. This distinction not only validates the work done, but also reinforces the need to continue consolidating efforts in the private sector to advance the transparency agenda and good corporate practices.

The benefits of adhesion to the OECD

Being part of the OECD implies that Argentina must align its regulatory framework and its economic practices to international standards, which can generate multiple benefits for the country and its companies:

Greater confidence and investment attraction: Integrating into the OECD implies adopting policies that strengthen institutional and economic stability, which provides greater predictability to investors.

Access to best practices: Member countries have an evidence -based reference framework to improve their public regulations and policies.

Greater transparency and fight against corruption: Adhesion demands advances in integrity and compliance mechanisms, essential elements to strengthen the competitiveness of the country.

The pending challenges

While Argentina has started its path to the OECD, there are still key challenges to address to achieve full adhesion. Among them:

Reinforcement in regulatory compliance mechanisms: It is necessary to improve the ability to supervise and apply anti -corruption standards.

Strengthening of governance and the rule of law: Legal certainty and efficiency of public institutions are fundamental aspects for the OECD.

Private sector commitment to integrity: The OECD promotes the adoption of high standards of corporate ethics and compliance programs in companies of all sizes.

The role of global pact in the construction of business capacities

The recognition of the Argentine Global Pact highlights its key role in the development of capacities in the private sector. As a United Nations initiative, it has been working for more than 20 years in the country and more than a decade promoting transparency, integrity and respect for human rights in business, providing specific tools to companies to strengthen their compliance systems.

From the implementation of the program Of companies for companieswhich offers anti -corruption training for SMEs, until Passport to integrityan accelerator program to implement Compliance strategies, Global Pact has been a fundamental actor in the construction of a values -based business culture.

In addition, as of March 2025, Argentina Global Pact and Ahk Argentina will assume the role of National Hub of Alliance for Integrity, consolidating their leadership in the region and expanding the network of actors committed to integrity.

Argentina and the OECD: an attainable goal with commitment and joint work

The road to the OECD is not only a matter of normative alignment, but a deep process of transformation for the country and its business fabric. In this tour, having institutions such as Argentine Global Pact, which have 10 universal principles and the tenth explicitly dedicated to integrity and anti -corruption, causes transparency, ethics in business and respect for human rights as a fundamental asset to ensure that the private sector is up to the best international standards.

If Argentina aspires to be part of the OECD, you must continue to strengthen its public and private integrity ecosystem. Recognition to Global Pact is a sign that the business sector of our country advances in the right direction, but the commitment must be sustained over time. The construction of more fair, transparent and sustainable markets depends on the joint effort between the public sector, companies and civil society. The opportunity is in our hands.
