The monk was carried away by the river in the mountains of Sochi

Rescuers are searching for a novice of a monastic skete who was swept away while trying to ford the Bezymyanka River in Sochi. This was announced on Thursday, February 10, on Instagram of the Southern Regional Search and Rescue Squad (RPSO) of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

“Rescuers of the URPSO are searching for a man who was carried away by the course of the Bezymyanka River. Today, a group of rescuers consisting of 8 people flew to the mountain village of Aibga aboard a Ka-32 helicopter of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are inspecting the coastline and the channel of the Bezymyanka River before its confluence with the Psou River, ”the social network reported.

Information about the incident was received by the detachment on the evening of February 9 from a novice of a monastic skete in the mountain village of Aibga, who said that while fording the Bezymyanka River (a tributary of the Psou River), one of the four monks was washed away by a strong stream of water. An independent search did not bring any results. After that, the monks turned to the rescuers for help.

11 employees of the YURPSO left for the place of emergency. However, the path was blocked by mudflow masses about 250–300 m long, which did not allow access to the village. The length of the walking route to the site of the prospecting work was more than 20 km. In this regard, the rescuers involved the aviation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

According to the stories of local residents, you can usually cross this tributary of the river with barely wet feet, but the day before, due to heavy rains, the water level rose sharply, reaching a mark of 1.5 m.

On February 7, it was reported that the Investigative Committee began an investigation into the death of a nine-year-old girl in the Astrakhan region. The child drowned on February 5 in an artificial canal in the village of Pokrovka, Akhtuba region. According to law enforcement agencies, the girl went out for a walk on the street, while the mother was busy with younger children. The schoolgirl’s body was found 150 meters from the house.
