Towards a more sustainable construction industry

Innovation and circular economy are today central elements to reduce environmental impact and move towards a more balanced development.

Sustainability is no longer a future aspiration. In a context that requires environmental responsibility and efficiency in the use of resources, the construction industry is going through a deep transformation process. Innovation and circular economy are today central elements to reduce environmental impact and move towards a more balanced development.

From the construction chemical industry, we understand that sustainability is a key component to take into account in an innovation strategy. One of the challenges is to improve the durability and energy efficiency in each of the constructive solutions, both for residential and industrial works. Not only do we seek to reduce our own environmental footprint, but also offer our customers products that actively contribute to the efficiency of their projects.

Another central axis is safety and well -being, from which more light and safe products are developed for users, with less solvent and more aqueous base formulations.

At the global level, Sika saves 25 million liters of water per year and it is proposed to advance even more with ambitious goals: reduce the generation of greenhouse gases by 20% and 15% water consumption and waste generation per ton sold around 2028. In our country, we advance with concrete initiatives to achieve these objectives, from water recovery technologies to the implementation of recycling systems in our productive plants.

In addition, we promote the development of certified products as sustainable solutions through our sustainability portfolio (SPM) management system, which stand out for their efficiency and low environmental impact.

The chemical industry for construction is also evolving towards new technologies. An example of this is the 3D concrete impression, which allows more flexible, efficient and sustainable designs, by the hand of innovative materials and solutions that optimize resources and reduce waste.

Each decision counts. Therefore, sustainability is a value that must integrate all the dimensions of the business, both the economic and the environmental and social, to promote economic development, lead the manufacture of sustainable solutions, take care of health and generate value in the community without affecting the opportunities of future generations.
