Film companies New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation will release the first anime prequel to John Tolkien’s fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. This was reported on February 14 by The Variety.
The title of the project was The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim. The series will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Joseph Chow. They previously worked on Blade Runner: Black Lotus.
According to the Federal News Agency, Kaziyama has 25 projects behind him.
The anime series will be written by New Zealand screenwriter and film producer Philippa Boyens. Among her works are scripts for Peter Jackson’s films King Kong and The Lovely Bones, as well as his film trilogies The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
According to the plot, the action will unfold 260 years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Viewers will be told about the exploits of King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan and the defense of Helm’s Deep.
