Modern smartwatches and fitness bracelets are made from materials that can cause allergies in their wearers. This was reported to URA.RU by an allergist-oncoimmunologist, author of a number of publications on oncoimmunology Daniil Shchepelyaev.
“There may be an allergy to the material from which the gadget is made. Either for rubber or plastic, or for dye,” said Daniil Shchepelyaev.
The doctor explained that nickel and chromium are among the most allergenic metals, and most budget gadgets are made from them. While rubber is typically used on expensive devices, it can also cause contact dermatitis.
Also, an allergy to smart watches and fitness bracelets can be caused by another factor.
“If your hand sweats under a pressed plastic case, along with a plastic strap, it can cause a reaction. It may be some kind of skin disease, but most likely contact dermatitis, ”said the allergist.
Earlier, on January 5, Vera Pishchalnikova, professor at the Department of General and Comparative Linguistics at the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), said that uncontrolled use of gadgets by children reduces the degree of their abstract thinking. Pishchalnikova added that technology affects the perception and understanding of the world, and also begins to “restrain the evolution of the brain.” Instead of reaching everything with their minds, people manage with a simpler brain, the MSLU processor added.
