The crews of Russian missile cruisers spotted NATO frigates that were trying to conduct electronic reconnaissance of Russian ships in the Mediterranean. On February 16, an informed source told RIA Novosti.
“NATO frigates tried to conduct electronic and electronic reconnaissance of Russian ships during an episode of planned exercises by the Russian Navy grouping in the eastern Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday,” the agency’s interlocutor said.
He clarified that the crews of Russian missile cruisers detected the radiation of the ships of the North Atlantic Alliance, determined the parameters of their movement and took the frigates for escort.
The exercises of the Russian Navy are taking place in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. More than 15 warships take part in them.
Earlier, on February 13, Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft and a Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet) submarine discovered a US Navy Virginia-class submarine in Russian waters.
It was noted that the coordinates of the submarine were sent to a detachment of warships led by the Pacific Fleet frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov. After that, the Russian multi-purpose ship performed the necessary actions to protect the state border of the Russian Federation.
An American Virginia-class submarine entered Russian territorial waters near the Kuril island of Urup on February 12. She ignored demands to leave Russian waters. The frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” used special equipment in connection with the violation of the territorial waters of the Russian Federation by the submarine.
According to Izvestia, the crew of the submarine tried to follow the exercises of the Pacific Fleet. However, the boat was discovered even before it began the task. The Ministry of Defense handed a note to the US military attache, it was stated that the actions of the American submarine are regarded as a gross violation of international law.
The Pentagon denied the information about the presence of the US Navy submarine in the territorial waters of Russia near the Kuril Islands.
