The tank army of the Western Military District (ZVO), following the units of the Southern Eastern District, began to return to the points of permanent deployment after the exercises. This was reported on February 16 by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“The servicemen of the tank army units of the Western Military District completed the loading of tanks and armored tracked vehicles onto railway platforms and began to march in a combined way to permanent deployment points at a distance of about 1,000 km after the completion of the planned exercises,” the message says.
As specified in the defense department, after returning to the points of deployment, military equipment will be prepared for further planned exercises.
Earlier on the same day, the Ministry of Defense announced the return of units of the Southern Military District from Crimea. A day earlier, part of the units of the Southern Military District and Western Military District also returned to their places of permanent deployment after joint exercises with Belarus.
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei specified that all Russian military and equipment would leave the republic after the end of the joint maneuvers. As the minister noted, the planned joint exercises of Russia and Belarus make it possible to check the combat readiness of the countries against the background of NATO activities near the borders of the Russian Federation and the republic.
On February 15, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that Russia and Belarus did not consider any state as a potential adversary during the joint military exercises “Allied Resolve – 2022”. According to him, the control systems of the troops of Russia and Belarus “are very clearly aligned.”
The joint Russian-Belarusian exercise “Allied Resolve – 2022” started on February 10. They are aimed at testing the response forces of the Union State. The maneuvers are taking place at combined-arms training grounds in Belarus. The exercises are arranged for the qualitative development of tasks “to suppress and repel external aggression in the course of a defensive operation, as well as to counter terrorism and protect the interests of the Union State. The exercises are due to end on February 20.
At the same time, the authorities emphasized that the maneuvers were purely defensive in nature and did not threaten anyone.
On February 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin held meetings with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Sergei Lavrov. Shoigu reported on the course of military exercises of the Russian army in various military districts. According to him, the exercises are held “in almost all fleets, in the Barents, Black, Baltic Seas.” The Minister of Defense noted that the exercises will be partially completed soon.
