The cabinet has launched Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil’s budget plans for this and next year. According to information from the German Press Agency, the budget draft for 2025 and corner values for 2026 were decided. With high debts, the federal government wants to invest in defense in both years, modernize infrastructure and bring Germany’s economy on a growth course. Next is debating the plans in the Bundestag and the Federal Council.
In his budget for this year, Klingbeil is planning expenses of 503 billion euros. 81.8 billion euros are to be financed in the core budget, plus more than 60 billion euros from debt -financed special pots. High loans will also be planned in the coming year. High sums should flow into the upgrading of bridges, streets and energy networks. In addition, defense expenditure should increase to 3.5 percent of gross domestic product by 2029.
