AfD ends up on an extremist list in Bavaria – with NPD and Antifa

The Free State of Bavaria accepts the AfD in the Extremism Directory. The list now includes 200 organizations, including Reichsbürger, neo-Nazis and Antifa groups.

The Bavarian AfD is to be included in the list of extremist or extremist organizations led by the Ministry of the Interior. State Chancellor Florian Herrmann announced this, citing Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (both CSU) after a meeting of the cabinet in Munich.

The directory includes the parties NPD and the third way, various Pegida groups, the Reich Citizens’ Movement, but also left-wing Antifa groups, the DKP or the Muslim Brotherhood.

The directory is intended to ensure the constitutional loyalty of applicants for the public service. “Teachers, police officers or judges have a great responsibility for our state and must therefore also ensure that they stand up for the liberal democratic basic order. This also applies to all other civil servants and employees in the public service,” said Interior Minister Herrmann. Constitutional enemies would have lost nothing in the public service.

“In Bavaria, with the procedure after the announcement, we have an instrument on the hand to effectively check applicants for their constitutional loyalty,” said Joachim Herrmann. However, mere membership does not necessarily lead to a rejection: “Each individual case must be examined in detail and all doubts must be cleared.” According to Florian Herrmann, however, there should be no review of state employees. This also makes it possible for AfD members to be employed as civil servants.

AfD is one of around 200 organizations

According to the Interior Minister, the admission of the AfD in the currently over 200 organizations is currently offered in Bavaria. “This decision is primarily based on the findings of the Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which mainly focus on activities and statements with a Bavarian reference.” At the moment, neither a decline in these extremist statements and activities should be recognized nor to expect that the more moderate currents within the AfD will prevail in the foreseeable future.
