The government has no money for the promised reduction in electricity tax. Several Union MPs protest. You want to save the money from the energy transition.
In the Union faction, sharp protest is stirring against the lack of reduction in electricity tax for consumers. “The electricity tax reduction was a promise of the government-and promises are to be kept,” says CDU economic politician Tilman Kuban the star. “Now Parliament is asked to correct the Ministry of Finance.”
The reduction for everyone is no longer intended in the new budget draft by Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD). Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) justified the U -turn on Tuesday at the Industry Day with the fact that “coalition agreement meets financial possibility and reality”.
CDU economic politician wants to save on heat pumps
The Federal Government had announced this in the coalition agreement. The electricity tax should decrease for everyone to the European minimum size. Now that should only happen for industry, but not for consumers.
CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann also protests: “The lowering of electricity tax for everyone has to come,” said CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann of the “Bild”. You have been intended as a compensation for the CO2 price. Apparently the government does not lack the political will, but simply the money. So it is shown at least in government circles.
CDU economic politician Kuban therefore has an idea: “If we make the electricity cheaper for everyone, we need less heat pump funding.” The government could reduce the pot for the lack of five billion. A total of around 15 billion euros have been planned so far. “Germany needs tax relief so that our country grows again,” said Kuban.
Lower electricity tax would have relieved households slightly
However, the electricity prices for consumers will probably decrease despite the lack of electricity tax reduction next year. This is how the gas storage covering and the network charges decrease. According to calculations by the Verivox comparison portal, a reduction in electricity tax would have reduced the electricity price by an additional 2 cents per kilowatt hour.
A family with an annual consumption of 4,000 kilowatt hours would have been relieved of around 93 euros a year.
