For several minutes, a Russian machine flies over the Baltic Sea in the airspace of Estonia. That doesn’t happen for the first time this year. Tallinn calls for an explanation.
The Baltic EU and NATO member Estonia has reported the violation of his airspace by a Russian transport aircraft. The machine of the Russian Department of Civil Protection of Type IL-76 was illegally penetrated into the Estonian airspace near the Baltic Sea island of Vaindloo on Sunday morning and stayed in it for about four minutes. This was announced by the Estonian army in Tallinn.
The plane had therefore switched on the electronic identifier and communicated a flight plan. At the time of the violation, however, the pilot did not keep radio contact with air traffic control, the statement said. The machine then flown into the Russian airspace.
Estonia expects explanation from Russia
According to a message, the Foreign Office in Tallinn ordered the business authority of the Russian embassy due to the incident and presented a grade. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna spoke of an “extremely serious and unfortunate incident”, for which Estonia expected an explanation of Russia. According to the army, it was the second airspace injury by Russia this year.
