Bathing and leisure fun- in a dictatorship? Kim Jong and wants to boost tourism in North Korea with a large holiday department.
North Korea inaugurated a large tourist area on its east coast in the presence of ruler Kim Jong un. Kim took part in the ceremony with “great satisfaction”, as the state news agency KCNA reported on Thursday. The Wonsan Kalma tourist area should be able to house around 20,000 visitors. Other large zones are to be built. “Kim Jong Un expressed the conviction that the wave of happiness that will be created in the tourist field on the coast of Wonsan Kalma, whose attractiveness will increase as a world rank’s tourist location,” wrote Kcna.
Kim had the coastal city of Wonsan, a popular holiday destination for locals, converted into a tourist center of a billioners. The 2014 development plans were announced for the first time. In view of the international sanctions because of its arms programs, the largely isolated state has not found a large foreign partner for the Wonsan project.
The agency reported that the tourist zone is to be opened for domestic guests from July 1st. There was no question of possible foreign vacationers. North Korea had closed its borders in 2020 at the beginning of Corona pandemic, but has gradually lifted many restrictions since 2023.
Power holder Kim Jong and wants to lure tourists into the country
The sealed country has recently allowed Russian tourist groups to enter. The Russian ambassador took part as a guest for the opening ceremony in Wonsan. The capital Pyongyang and other parts of the country remain closed for regular tourism, even if a marathon run with foreign runners was carried out in April.
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urgently advising trips to North Korea. “Foreigners are countered by the Korean population outside of regulated encounters with distrust,” says the homepage of the Federal Foreign Office. “Especially when exploring independently, incidents often occur.” Due to supposedly anti -republica, there were several arrests from foreigners.
