Bundestag: Greens and Left with colorful protest against Julia Klöckner

Protest against Klöckner
Left and Greens form rainbows in the Bundestag

The Greens and Leftists stand out in the Bundestag with colorful outfits. This puts a sign of the topic of the debate – but also to Parliamentary President Julia Klöckner.

Unusual picture in the Bundestag: Instead of in subtle outfits, some MPs of the Greens and the left took part in the session in the plenum in bright colors. In green, yellow, orange and red, the representatives of the political groups formed the rainbow colors – and on the one hand, on the one hand, set a sign of diversity, but on the other hand also against Bundestag president Julia Klöckner.

The occasion was the debate about queer anti -queer hate crime in parliament. In an application, the Greens asked the government to “clearly and decisively counter attacks on security and fundamental rights of queer people everywhere”. They emphasized particularly attacks with a right -wing extremist background.

Objection to Julia Klöckner’s decisions

At the same time, the opposition parties also confirm their contradiction to Julia Klöckner’s latest decisions to Christopher Street Day in Berlin. Unlike in previous years, the queer rainbow network of the Bundestag administration must not take part in the event.

The Bundestag president of the CDU had previously decided that in the future the rainbow flag on the Reichstag building should only be raised on the international day against homophobia (May 17) and no longer to the Berlin CSD. Klöckner referred to the “neutrality requirement”.

Colorful clothing is allowed in the Bundestag

There had been significant criticism from the ranks of the left and the Greens for both decisions. This also expresses the political groups with their choice of clothing in the Bundestag. “It’s just a symbol. But one that makes the difference for many,” wrote Green MP Katrin Göring-Eckardt on X. Her group colleague Till Steffens sent with a photo of the rainbow campaign “Greetings to Julia Klöckner”.

The MPs probably do not have to fear consequences. Shirts with inscriptions in the Bundestag are not allowed. However, there are no regulations regarding the choice of colors.
