The criticism of Israel’s approach to Iran is loud – especially in Moscow, which has been war for three years. However, the conflicts cannot be compared, according to the Kremlin.
Russia’s leadership, which has been waging war in Ukraine for more than three years, criticizes Israel’s recent attacks on Iran and does not consider both conflicts to be comparable. “The beginning of the conflict and the strokes of Israel against Iran were absolutely unprovoco,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow from the state news agency TASS. The prehistory of “military special surgery” – as Moscow calls his invasion in Ukraine -, on the other hand, is well known, he added.
Israel has justified the air strikes against Iran with the need to stop the Iranian nuclear weapons program that is said to have to stop shortly before completing. The Israeli government immediately sees its country threatened. Tehran does not recognize Israel’s right to exist.
Russia also justified its invasion in the neighboring country, among other things, with security concerns. The much smaller and militarily inferior Ukraine should not be allowed to join NATO. In addition, the Kremlin claimed the role of a protective power for the Russian -speaking minority in Ukraine, suppressed according to Moscow. The attack on February 24, 2022 took place without warning – a few days earlier, the Kremlin had to publicly denied invasion plans.
