Brand attack on Bundeswehr truck-investigations into Russia

Again and again, the Bundeswehr vehicles burned. So far it is unclear who is behind it. But now the investigators are pursuing a new trace, at least in one case.

After the arson attack on the Bundeswehr truck in Erfurt, the public prosecutor’s office also investigates possible connections to Russia. “We are also investigating this direction,” said a spokeswoman for the Erfurt public prosecutor. Previously, a video had appeared on a Russian telegram channel. The beginning of the crime was apparently seen in it, said the spokeswoman. “It is determined who potentially posted this video.”

On Saturday evening, six Bundeswehr trucks had burned in Erfurt, which were parked on a workshop area. On Thursday, photos of the truck were published on the military blog “Obsessed by the War” in the undamaged and later damaged state and a video of the fire. MDR and “T-Online” had previously reported.

Connections to war in Ukraine?

The video in Russian says: “In Erfurt in Germany, various military equipment is brought for the Ukrainian armed forces to repair. Our people decided that all of this was unnecessary and that the Ukrainian armed forces did not need such equipment. So they simply burned them.”

It is unclear whether the trucks destroyed during the attack had actually been intended for Ukraine, as the video claimed. The Thuringian State Criminal Police Office is currently examining the authenticity and origin of the video, as a spokeswoman said. There is a nationwide exchange of information on similar incidents in Germany. No information can be given on current investigations.

Similar attacks in the past

In Erfurt, military vehicles were presumably set on fire at the same place in June last year. So far, the LKA has not given any information about the background.

Two weeks ago, six Bundeswehr vehicles also burned in Soltau in Lower Saxony, and they were also parked on a workshop area. A confession letter had appeared in Soltau after the crime. A group called “Agenda2029” wrote on the left -wing extremist internet platform “Indymedia”: “A further intensification of a global war is being prepared here in Germany, so we have to sabotage the centers of the warsters.”
