First Donald Trump started critical media, now also Pete Hegseth. The defense minister himself was a journalist himself – and also does not stop at former colleagues.
Donald Trump and his ministers – again – are not well to speak on media representatives. This time it is about reports that the Iranian nuclear facilities are not as badly damaged after the attacks of the United States and Israel as the government claimed.
Trump has already raged against CNN and the “New York Times”, his Defense Minister Pete Hegseth follows. At a press conference, the Pentagon boss went to journalist Jennifer Griffin from Fox News directly. “Jennifer, they are one of the worst,” Hegseth replied to a question from the reporter. “One of those who deliberately portrays what the President says.”
Griffin had asked if the Pentagon could certainly say that there was high -increased uranium in the bombed facilities in Iran. In the days before the attack, satellite pictures had shown dozens of trucks in the area. She immediately reacted to Hegseth’s allegations: “I have a problem with it.” She was one of the first journalists to have described the mission in Iran.
Pete Hegseth used to work at Fox News himself
The exchange is remarkable in two ways. On the one hand, there was a close relationship between Trump and his favorite broadcaster Fox news for a long time, on the support of which he could mostly rely on. In the recent past, however, tensions have also occurred, as the scene between Hegseth and Griffin shows.
On the other hand, Hegseth worked for the broadcaster. There he performed as a moderator and talk show guest, conducted interviews with his current boss Donald Trump and often criticized the policy of the Democrats. Until a year ago, the Minister of Defense and the journalist, whom he was now putting on, were on the solder.
Dispute over Iranian nuclear facilities
Hegseth had called the press conference specifically to defend “the honor of our great American pilots”, as Donald Trump called it. The Pentagon boss repeated the president’s statement that the attacks with bunkerbreaking bombs had “wiped out” and completely “destroyed” Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Hegseth accused the press to miss “historical moments” by constantly searching for scandals. It is in the DNA of journalists to make mood against Trump. The President and his spokeswoman had previously made allegations against CNN and asked for a single reporter. The broadcaster had cited from a military intelligence report that the nuclear facilities in Iran were not as strongly destroyed as from Trump.
