As some in the party dealt with SPD boss Esken was not the fine way. Esken’s probable successor finds clear words.
The designated SPD chairman Bärbel Bas criticized her party for dealing with the previous party leader Saskia Esken. Esken had to experience “that solidarity is not always a matter of course – not even in social democracy,” said the Minister of Labor at the party congress in Berlin. “I say very clearly here: We have to do it differently again.” If the SPD wants to fight for a solidarity society, it must first be a solidarity party. “Otherwise nobody believes that!” Said Bas.
After the debacle in the Bundestag election, SPD boss Lars Klingbeil had grabbed power: he is now a vice-chancellor. Esken, on the other hand, did not get a place in the cabinet and now does not start again as party leader. Many in the SPD criticize rigorous personnel policy, but during the coalition negotiations there was also a lot of public criticism.
BAS is to be elected as the new SPD leader this evening and take a place next to Klingbeil at the Esken party leaders. She emphasized: “I am internal for every open word.” A closed occurrence of her party awaits you on the outside.
