Six Bundeswehr trucks burn in Erfurt-is Russia behind? Investigators check information on foreign masterminds. What is known so far.
After an arson attack on six Bundeswehr trucks in Erfurt, the investigators also have possible Russian masterminds. “We are also investigating this direction,” said a spokeswoman for the Erfurt public prosecutor. In general, however, the investigation was directed in all directions.
On Saturday evening, six Bundeswehr trucks had burned in Erfurt, which were parked on a workshop area. On Thursday, photos of the truck were published on the Russian-language telegram channel “Obsessed by the War” in the undamaged and later damaged state and a video of the fire. MDR and “T-Online” had previously reported.
The beginning of the crime was apparently seen in the video, said the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor. “It is determined who potentially posted this video.” The Thuringian State Criminal Police Office announced that the clip is currently examining its authenticity and origin.
Were the trucks for Ukraine intended?
In the posting for the video it was also said in Russian: “In Erfurt in Germany, diverse military equipment is brought for the Ukrainian armed forces. Our people decided that all of this was unnecessary and that the Ukrainian armed forces did not need such equipment. So they simply burned them.”
According to the Federal Ministry of Defense, the trucks were not intended for Ukraine. “This is the troop’s tools,” said a spokeswoman for the Ministry in Berlin. They would not be related to possible taxes to Ukraine. According to information from the German Press Agency, field hunters, i.e. military police officers, were also at the scene to get an idea.
Bundeswehr: Do not participate in speculation
The Bundeswehr State Command in Thuringia said that the video was known. “At the moment, it is still a matter of speculation as to whether it is actually a sabotage act of pro -Russian actors or a misinformation campaign,” said a spokesman. The Bundeswehr will not participate in any speculation in this regard.
Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) said that one could not say with certainty who is behind the attack. “If it is confirmed that a foreign power – such as Russia – has carried out sabotage here, then this is again an attack on our democracy. I judge such enemy acts on German soil.”
The chairman of the Thuringian CDU parliamentary group, Andreas Bühl, called the processes “to a large extent”. To a certain extent, it confirms that Russian actors focus on such things or that people are instigated online for such acts.
LKA checks connections to similar acts
In Erfurt, military vehicles were presumably set on fire at the same place in June last year. So far, the LKA has not given any information about the background. There is a nationwide exchange of information on similar incidents in Germany. No information can be given on current investigations.
In March, several Bundeswehr vehicles were lit in Berlin. Two weeks ago, six Bundeswehr vehicles also burned in Soltau in Lower Saxony, and they were also parked on a workshop area.
Confessions had appeared on the left -wing internet platform “Indymedia” on the left -wing extremist internet platform. A group named “Agenda2029” wrote about the case in Berlin: “A further intensification of a global war is being prepared here in Germany, so we have to sabotage the centers of the war.”
